Raghav, an Indian American college senior, prepares for his upcoming Yajnopavita - a sacred Hindu thread ceremony. When his mother Renu overhears a call with his American girlfriend about the ceremony and shaving his head for the ritual, she accidentally spills the chai she is preparing. As Renu oils Raghav’s hair that night, he confronts his unresolved grief over his father's death and his conflicted cultural identity. Growing up Hindu in the United States has left him caught between two worlds, but through this intimate conversation, Raghav decides to connect with his heritage. Processing his trauma and complicated relationship with his late father, Raghav finds a new sense of self-acceptance. With renewed confidence, he performs the ceremony and shaves his head, taking a step towards letting go of past trauma and embracing his cultural identity.
