Stud Country, the largest queer country western line dancing event in America, was created to preserve Los Angeles' little known 50+ year queer line dancing tradition. Despite its success and fiercely committed community, the event is set to lose its venue due to gentrification.

Stud Country is about a line dancing event in Los Angeles that is continuing the (very under-documented) 50 year history of queer line dancing in the city.

How do you rebuild “home” from nothing but memories? This verite-style film thrusts us into the intimate conversations between Maria and her grandchild, Marucha: two Indigenous refugees living in displacement. To Maria, the Venezuelan delta is her home. To Marucha, these refugee camps are all she knows. Through the rhythms of their daily lives, we witness the complexity of raising a new generation in displacement and explore how land, memory and identity are deeply intertwined.

Waking from strange dreams, aging pickpocket, Wilfred Rose descends into the subway system for the first time in years. Underground, he heads into a jungle of memory. While sizing up marks, he recalls being abandoned as a teenager, the crime world figures who guided him, and the hard won skills he learned "playing shots" to survive in 1970's New York. These stories and characters threaten to draw him away from his family and back into the very life of crime that he believes may have cost his son's life. As existential as Bresson's "Pickpocket," as tense as any heist film, and as emotional as the most gripping documentary “Shotplayer” comes to take hold of you drag you into the subterranean world of Wilfred's mind and break you out with him when he comes up for air!
