Lee Sipos is in a rut: she's still paying off student loans, her waitressing job involves frequent customer harassment, her roommates are abandoning her to live a more lavish lifestyle, and her physically-disabled father has run into some trouble with the law. Not to mention, she's attempting to pull off an acting career. When all of the above elements collide, Lee has to get herself back on her feet. What is at first born out of sheer curiosity, soon becomes her reality: sugar babying. As the season unfolds, Lee, gets swept up in her double-life. All types of wealthy characters wine and dine her - and not always the stereotypical business men one might expect. At first, Lee enjoys the experience: she's an actor performing. Lee proves to be relatively cunning in the profession, sometimes scoring big allowances and dodging dangerous situations with Daddies. Everything seems to take a turn for the better when Lee meets The Producer, a mysterious and allegedly successful Hollywood tycoon. He promises to help Lee, not only financially, but with her acting career as well. When Lee becomes ensnared in an emotionally and sexually abusive relationship with The Producer, she must call for help from the unlikely heroes throughout the season to pull her out of a precarious situation and get her back on her feet.

Brownsville Bred is an anthology series whose stories reveal the many pitfalls of generational poverty--and the inherent traps in high-crime areas for young people of color. Our first story spans the 1980's and decade-long coming-of-age journey of Elaine--a spunky, soulful, Puerto Rican girl living with her Mom, Dad, and three half-siblings in the welfare projects of Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York. We first meet Elaine at eight years old. She is the narrator of her story and introduces us to her family and environment. Despite living in poverty, through Elaine's young eyes, life is perfect. Her best friends are her father, Manny-- an aspiring salsa singer/musician who works as a public school janitor. And her intellectually disabled, Aunt Elizabeth-- whose severe asthma makes her wheelchair dependent. In a life filled with dichotomy, Elaine is often responsible for keeping watch over her Aunt Elizabeth (twenty years her senior). Like many growing up in crime-ridden neighborhoods, Elaine is part naive, desensitized, and keenly aware of the dangers around her. Grim realities crystalize when the police arrive at the family home and uncover life-changing circumstances.

Set in 1980's Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY--A spunky Latina must find her own path as she comes of age to face the grim realities of the musician father she once idolized and the deteriorating neighborhood she calls home.

Recently fired, best friends Cal and Eric are faced with a life-altering choice: fall in line as corporate shills, or blaze their own unique path. While Eric wants to resign to a forgettable position in “data systems,” Cal wants more, posting hundreds of ads online, falsifying their qualifications for jobs they’ve never done. Eric objects to their first gig as private investigators, until he falls for the subject of their investigation.

MASHED confronts us with the question: How does trauma manifest itself and your body and your life? As we explore this question, we also confront why women’s pelvic issues are so stigmatized. Why do women swallow pain instead of confront it? In each episode we see Mashie push her own boundaries physically and emotionally. When we first meet Mashie, she is just coming to terms with her queerness. She thinks this is going to solve the painful sex she’s experienced in the past. She quickly realizes it doesn’t and thus a journey of self discovery begins. However, self discovery is not a straight and narrow path. She often acts out of trauma responses, pushing her own boundaries and people away. Each character puts Mashie in a position where she feels safe or unsafe to disclose information about herself. Even in her moments when she is alone, the struggle is present because of what it means for herself. She tries to either hide, ignore, or force her sexual pleasure. Through these various interactions, we meet characters like Winnie who has their own sexual trauma and uncovers Mashie’s own contradictions. Other Mashie shows us what a person comfortable in their body can do with a gentle touch. Salty, a manifestation of Mashie’s mind, allows Mashie to see the courage and confidence she needs for her healing journey.

Mashed

A tender, raunchy, and queer exploration of female pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction that follows a woman struggling with vaginismus as she tries to connected with her sexuality through rushed and reckless intimacy and vigorous EMDR trauma therapy.
